Principles

I am not a conservative when it comes to how to read and follow the Bible. Rather, I believe it is meant to teach principles and how correct following of those principles can vary depending on the nature of contemporary culture. The Bible is not an exact set of instructions, cannot properly be read as such, and one shouldn't attempt to read it as such, despite may claiming to the contrary.

• Faith and Kindness are more important that accuracy --- that is, if faced with a choice of obeying the letter of what you read in scripture or doctrine, vs loving your neighbour as yourself and generally being kind, you should prefer kindness. (This is one of the many things I see in Jesus' teachings and example.)
• Imperfection is inevitable. Part of the point of 'all have sinned and fall short' is exactly that: we are all sinners who fall short. Aspiration to be better is important, as above Faith and Kindness are important. It is also important not to be negative towards ourself when we inevitably fall short. Rather pick oneself up and have another go. We all have our failings, and must accept that. We will never be perfect, and we must accept that. We can think only in terms of reasonable effort.
